The Washington Stage Guild offers a warm and touching tale of young love with the Washington area premiere of See Rock City by Arlene Hutton. It is the height of World War II, and Raleigh and May, the young couple from last season's uplifting hit Last Train to Nibroc, have returned home to Kentucky to figure out their lives. Their two very different mothers have plenty of ideas for them, but the war's progression affects them all, and leads to a heartwarming, bittersweet conclusion.

Returning is the critically acclaimed cast of last season's Nibroc, Wood Van Meter and Lexi Langs, as Raleigh and May. Joining them are Stage Guild favorites Laura Giannarelli and Lynn Steinmetz as the pair's mothers. Stage Guild artistic director Bill Largess directs. "We had always hoped that the success of Last Train to Nibroc would lead to producing this sequel," Largess commented. "Audiences who fell in love with the two lonely strangers in the first play will root for them as the inevitable challenges of married life descend. New audiences who meet Raleigh and May for the first time will also join the cheering section."
Lexi Langs has appeared on numerous regional stages. Notable roles include Annelle in Steel Magnolias (Alhambra Theatre); Avery in Rapture, Blister, Burn (Zoetic Stage); Vanda in Venus in Fur (Cotuit Center for the Arts, MA); Sylvia in Tribes (Mad Cow Theatre); Melody in Bad Jews (GableStage); Frankie Addams in The Member of the Wedding (River City Rep and Virginia Rep); and Becky/Molly in Circle of Friends (American Girl Place Theatre, NYC).
Wood Van Meter just completed a successful run as Joseph in Toby's Dinner Theatre production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and in the long-running Kennedy Center hit Shear Madness. He has also appeared at Shakespeare Theatre Company, Studio Theatre, Imagination Stage, Rep Stage, and Signature Theatre.
Laura Giannarelli, a founding member of the Washington Stage Guild, has appeared in more than 40 Stage Guild productions. Laura has also acted with many other area theatres over the years: Baltimore's Everyman Theatre, Olney Theatre, GALA Hispanic Theatre, Theatre J, Studeo Theatre and Round House Theatre, among others. Laura has also directed several production at he Guild (including this season's Widowers' Houses). She has also directed for Quotidian Theatre in Bethesda.
Founding Member Lynn Steinmetz's most recent appearances onstage at the Guild were multiple roles in all three productions of Shaw's epic Back to Methuselah and as Hazel in Tiny Island. Over the past 40 years, she has performed in a variety of venues in the Washington-Baltimore area, including Arena Stage, Woolly Mammoth, Olney Theater Center, Round House Theatre, Everyman Theatre, Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian and others.
Director Bill Largess is a Founding Member of the Stage Guild, and was one of the company's dramaturgs since its founding in 1986. At the Guild he has directed classic plays by Shaw, T.S. Eliot, Beaumarchais and Molnar, among others, as well as last season's Last Train to Nibroc. He has adapted and translated works by Dante, Marivaux, Wilde, and this Christmas's production of A Child's Christmas in Wales and other Tales. As actor, he is a five-time Helen Hayes Award nominee and twice received the Theatre Lobby's Mary Goldwater Award (the only individual to have done so).
Playwright Arlene Hutton is best known for the Nibroc Trilogy, of which See Rock City is the second play in the cycle. Last Train to Nibroc was nominated for the New York Drama League Best Play. Other works include the FringeNYTCF hit Running, and As It Is in Heaven and Letters to Sala. Her plays have been presented off- and off-off Broadway, and at regional theatres in the U.S. London, and throughout the world, including four times at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her work has been translated into Chinese, Dutch, and Rumanian.

When the librarian stands her ground, the attention of the country focuses on the unexpected battle. Based on a true story from the 50s, this is an area premiere.
