The WNO Offers A One-of-a-Kind Costume Sale 10/17-18 At Takoma Park Studio

Just in time for Halloween, Washington National Opera (WNO) throws open its closet doors for a Costume Sale, October 17 and 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its Takoma Park Studio. The sale will feature more than 1,000 costumes, ranging from rehearsal muslins to couture gowns, as well as shoes and accessories. The public sale-the company's first in six years-is being held to clear space in the studio's overcrowded storage rooms.

"The Costume Sale is a unique opportunity for the public to peak behind our closet doors, access professionally crafted costuming at deep discounts, and take home a piece of WNO history," commented WNO Costume Director Marsha M. LeBoeuf. "We are expecting everyone from moms and kids to theater designers to fashionistas to raid our closets!"

LeBoeuf and her staff will be on hand to serve as "personal shoppers" and stylists, and to provide background information regarding the costumes. Dressing areas will be available.

More than 1,000 items representing a variety of periods and styles will be available. Shows being sold include renowned designer Ming Cho Lee's Madama Butterfly, circa 1962, and Mariusz Trelinski's audacious La Bohème (2007), as well as historical military costumes, iconic character pieces and Knights of the Holy Grail costumes. Modern and period pieces include cloaks, shirts, trousers and jackets. Men's and women's costumes are available, as are a limited number of children's costumes. Individual pieces and accessories start at $2, with most complete costumes ranging from $50-$200.
