John Oliver is an Emmy and Writer's Guild Award-winning writer. His HBO show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, presents a satirical look at the week in news, politics, and current events to an audience averaging more than four million viewers weekly. The show started its third series in February. When on occasional breaks from the show, Oliver returns to his first love of stand-up and performs at sold-out venues around the world.
From 2006 to 2013, Oliver was a correspondent and guest host on the multi-award-winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, guest-hosting the show for two months during Jon Stewart's absence in 2013. Following its success, Oliver went on to host four seasons of his own stand-up series for Comedy Central, John Oliver's New York Stand Up Show.
Prior to 2006, Oliver worked in the U.K., with a string of television appearances and sold-out solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He also co-wrote and co-presented the weekly satirical podcast, The Bugle, with long-time collaborator Andy Zaltzman. Since its inception in 2007, the podcast grew to attract over 500,000 downloads a week.
Oliver had a regular guest role on NBC's sitcom Community; was the voice of Vanity Smurf in The Smurfs movie and its sequel, The Smurfs 2; and has appeared in The Simpsons as Marge and Homer's next-door neighbor, Booth Wilkes-John.
