The company will feature the Washington, D.C. premiere of its new work The Complete World of Sports (abridged) and a return engagement of Completely Hollywood (abridged). Originally from California these "bad boys of abridgement" bring back their seriously silly show-biz satire, Completely Hollywood (abridged) from June 21 to July 3 followed by more hilarity with their all new The Complete World of Sports (abridged) from July 5 to July 24. Press opening night for Completely Hollywood (abridged) is Thursday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. and The Complete World of Sports (abridged) press opening night is Thursday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m.
They've gone biblical, they've gone historical; they've even tinkered with Tinsletown, abridged of course. Now, for the first time ever in Washington, D.C., America's best-loved comedy troupe reduces the culture of sports to its absurdist essence by irreverently, but affectionately, reducing the entire history of athletic competition in less than two hours. Even the most die-hard, non-sports fan will be tickled silly by the Reduced Shakespeare Company's Complete World of Sports (abridged). But not before they bring back their side-splitting Completely Hollywood (abridged) analyzing the 175 greatest films from Hollywood's over 100 year history.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company is a three-man comedy troupe who first made their mark in 1981 keeping Renaissance Festival goers in California entertained with fast-paced adaptations of Hamlet. Best known for taking long, serious subjects and reducing them into short, sharp comedies, they have created seven stage shows, two television specials, three failed TV pilots, and numerous radio pieces. In addition to ongoing tours of the U.S. and the U.K., they have performed at the White House, Lincoln Center, the West End, and seven times at the Kennedy Center. The company has been seen on major American and British television networks and heard frequently on both NPR and the BBC. Internationally acclaimed, the company often has as many as five different touring productions being presented simultaneously on three different continents.
The versatile and flexible actors have received rave reviews of their performances in the witty and quick condensations of the most serious material, from Shakespeare to the history of America, to the Bible.
Completely Hollywood (abridged) and The Complete World of Sports (abridged) are written and directed by ReEd Martin and Austin Tichenor.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company has been seen at the Kennedy Center in The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) and The Complete History of America (abridged) in 1994; The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) in 1995; The Complete Millennium Musical (abridged) in 1999; The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) in 2001; All the Great Books (abridged) in 2003, The Complete History of America (abridged) again in 2006 and most recently in 2010 with Completely Hollywood (abridged).
