The Keegan Theatre is pleased to announce initiatives designed to make Keegan a more inclusive and accessible destination for patrons and artists alike. Launching now, at the start of Keegan's 22nd season, these efforts have been developed to help Keegan promote equity, diversity, and inclusion through art and action - a central element of the company's mission. New campaigns launching now include the 20 for $20 and KeeganConnects initiatives, each offering discounted or complimentary tickets to mainstage productions.
The new 20 for $20 initiative is designed to increase accessibility for patrons of all means. 20 for $20 offers twenty $20 tickets for each Thursday performance through the end of the 2018-19 season, giving prospective theatregoers an affordable option to experience each of Keegan's mainstage productions. For more information contact boxoffice@keegantheatre.com.
Also newly launching is KeeganConnects, a new initiative designed to strengthen Keegan's community ties. KeeganConnects provides DC-area residents with complimentary tickets to Thursday and Sunday performances through collaborative relationships with regional nonprofits and schools. If you work with an area nonprofit or school and are interested in receiving complimentary tickets through KeeganConnects or booking student group tickets for performances any day of the week, please contact Alexis Hartwick, Director of Education at playrahka@keegantheatre.com
"Keegan is committed to stepping up our efforts to engage thoroughly with not only our immediate neighbors but the DC community at large," Keegan Theatre Artistic Director Susan Marie Rhea remarks, "and we recognize that this means encouraging and enabling everyone to come to the theater, and removing any impediments to attendance. Our 20 for $20 and KeeganConnects initiatives are intended to make it even easier to come to the theater - with opportunities to see Keegan shows at little to no cost, for those potential audience members who might be discouraged by steep ticket prices."
Keegan also announces updates to its Boiler Room Series. Now in its second year, this special new works-focused initiative will feature staged readings of new works by promising voices and an expanded WOMXN on Fire Festival this season. Keegan's Boiler Room Series is designed to both give theatregoers in DC an opportunity to hear bold new works and give the artists behind those works a supportive environment to develop them further. New this year, all Boiler Room Series staged readings are free and open to all in an effort to increase audience accessibility and amplify the debut experience for the presenting playwrights.
"The Boiler Room Series is our boots-on-the-ground commitment to fostering new works and emerging artists," Rhea explains. "Keegan wants to double down on our commitment to get audiences in the door for these riskier endeavors -- which is why we've decided to make all staged readings in 2018-2019 free to audiences. Once again, our goal is removing barriers to attendance, broadening our audience base, and encouraging theater newcomers to walk through Keegan's doors this season."
