On Sunday, September 19 beginning at noon, up to 20,000 people are expected at Nationals Park for "Target FREE Opera in the Outfield," a free, live opera broadcast presented by Washington National Opera (WNO). This unique community event features WNO's production of A Masked Ball, broadcast live to Nationals Park from the Kennedy Center Opera House, as well as activities for "fans" of all ages. Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event.
"Pre-game" and intermission activities include picnicking in the outfield, raffles, a t-shirt toss, and photo-ops with Nationals mascot Screech and the Green M&M. New this year is the Family Fun Zone, featuring activities for children, including mask-making, a playground, and a costume trunk. During the "Seventh Aria Stretch," WNO will announce the winner of the "Take Me Out to the Opera" contest, and singers will lead the crowd in song.
