Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved musical The Sound of Music celebrates its 50th anniversary with eight performances on the Filene Center stage. The story of nun-in-training Maria highlights the topics of love, family, and endurance set admist turbulent times. Emmy-nominated actress
Mandy Bruno stars as the vivacious Maria and is supported by Drama-Desk Award-winning
Burke Moses as the stern, yet compassionate Captain Von Trapp. Filled with memorable melodies that tug at the heart strings, this cherished musical continues to win over audiences, five decades after its inception. Memorable songs include: "My Favorite Things," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss," "So Long, Farewell," and of course the title song, "The Sound of Music." The original Broadway production of The Sound of Music won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score. The 1965 movie starring
Julie Andrews received five Academy Awards including Best Picture and has become the most popular movie musical ever made.
As part of this production, ten Washington D.C. area teens have been selected to join the cast. The local cast members, eight young ladies and two young men, will serve in the youth ensemble chorus, alongside award-winning Broadway actors and under the direction of esteemed directors and creative teams, including Teen Ensemble Director, Bill Newberry. As part of its commitment to making performing arts accessible to diverse audiences and participants, Wolf Trap is pleased to partner with the Atlanta-based Theatre of the Stars to provide such opportunities to local aspiring young actors and actresses.
