The National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, the only accredited acting school in the Greater Washington Area, and Crash of Rhinos, the new theater company anticipated to take up residence at the Conservatory next year, announced today that they would present readings of two new comedies on Saturday, August 31, at the Kennedy Center's 2013 Page To Stage Festival:
- At 4:00 PM, in Rehearsal Room 2: NCDA presents "The Good Devil, in Spite of Himself" by Mario Baldessari and Tyler Herman. Directed by Tyler Herman. "Come enjoy the comedic travails of a nomadic 17th Century Commedia company threatened with an official decree that forbids them from using dialogue in their plays. The royal restriction sends the tiny comedy troupe on a rollercoaster ride of comic invention as they seek to successfully skirt the dialogue police!" Featuring Liz Dutton, Vaughn Irving & Doug Wilder.
- At 7:30 PM, in Rehearsal Room 2: Crash of Rhinos presents "Doubting Thomas" by Mario Baldessari. Directed by Lee Mikeska Gardner. "Tom's been diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer. When modern medicine fails, he's urged to seek out Thomas of God, a mysterious faith healer in Mexico believed to channel the spirit of Saint Thomas Aquinas. The actual spirit of Thomas Aquinas, however, has other plans in store for Tom, his family and friends. A comedy about life, death and life-or-death situations." Featuring Caren Anton, Liz Dutton, Maggie Erwin, Jim Helein, Steven Soto & Doug Wilder.
Each reading will be followed by a brief, post-reading discussion with the audience, actors and playwright. All readings at the 2013 Kennedy Center Page To Stage Festival are free and open to the public.
