The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre continues to expand its SigWorks program by launching a free Musical Theater Director Workshop for Washington DC based directors from January 13 - 15, 2016. This intensive free workshop will be led by Signature Theatre's acclaimed artistic team: Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Gigi, Million Dollar Quartet, Follies), Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner (Cabaret, Sunday in the Park with George) and Director of New Works Joe Calarco (Gypsy, Cake Off).
"With Signature being a leader of musical theatre in Washington DC, we wanted to reach out and share our experiences with young directors in the area who are interested in musical theatre," said Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. "This workshop will allow us to share information as well as experiences on directing and producing a musical from the ground up. From technical aspects to collaboration, it will provide a new creative opportunity for young directors."
This free workshop is available to early career Washington, D.C. based directors under 40 who are interested in the creation and business of musical theater. Applicants must be available January 14 and 15 as well as the evening of the 13th for a welcome session and performance. Participants will attend performances of West Side Story and Georgie and classes on rights and estates, designing and collaborating with artistic teams, producing a musical, musical team roles and the business of musicals. The workshop size is limited to 6 participants. To apply, please send your resume and a short letter on why you would like to participate in this workshop to warew@sigtheatre.org.
