The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre continues its commitment to new work by launching the second annual SigWorks: Monday Night New Play Readings Series. This initiative highlights and supports the work of DMV and regional playwrights and is an opportunity for playwrights, actors, directors, designers, and patrons to explore new plays in a fun and informal environment.
The Monday Night New Play Reading Series will be hosted at Ali's Bar in Signature Theatre's Mead Lobby every other month beginning October 3, 2016 and going through June 5, 2017 (see full schedule of dates below). Ali's Bar will be open before and after each reading and audience members are invited to come early for drink specials.
Signature Theatre Director of New Works Joe Calarco stated, "The first season of the SigWorks Monday Night Reading Series was such a success that I couldn't be more excited to continue the program, giving more local DC area playwrights a chance to hear their work in front of, and get feedback from, enthusiastic audiences. The atmosphere at Ali's Bar in Signature's lobby has been ideal for allowing new play lovers to gather and support writers. While the reading series wasn't necessarily intended to launch any of the works toward full production here at Signature, I couldn't be more proud that the very first work we presented, Audrey Cefaly's The Gulf, will be the first play of the 16/17 season in The ARK."
Last season's SigWorks: Monday Night New Play Readings Series highlighted the work of DC area playwright's Audrey Cefaly, Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, Heather McDonald, Dani Stoller, and Annalisa Dias.
Signature Theatre is accepting submissions for full-length plays (no musicals) from May 11th through June 15th, 2016. Interested playwrights from the DMV area should submit the following materials to the following Dropbox link: http://bit.ly/sigworkssubmissions

Playwrights whose scripts are selected will have the opportunity to rehearse their plays with professional actors the day of the reading. Joe Calarco will serve as dramaturg for all readings.
