NextStop Theatre Company's 2nd annual family holiday production will be Seussical (TYA). Based on the works of Dr. Seuss and brought to the stage by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, this show combines classic Seuss characters and stories into a musical extravaganza!
The cast consists of almost 30 local, young actors in 3rd through 11th grade, many of whom appeared in last year's A Charlie Brown Christmas. They are joined by Katie McManus as the Sour Kangaroo, Matthew Thompson as Horton the Elephant, and Jaclyn Young as Gertrude McFuzz; all professional actors and NextStop veterans.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge--not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
The family holiday show is the largest education program at NextStop Theatre, which provides experience for participants in putting on a full length production with professional actors, directors, designers, and staff.
The creative team behind the production includes Jennifer Lambert (direction), Evie Korovesis (music direction), Katie McManus (co-choreography), Jack Golden (scenic design), Brian Stefaniak (lighting design), and Kristina Martin (costume design). Kyle Dannahey, also a student, serves as the Production Stage Manager.
