Rep Stage Artistic Director Michael Stebbins has announced the 2007-2008 line up for the company's 15th season. Stebbins continues his goal of serving audiences with more opportunities to see theatre by extending the performance week to Wednesday through Sunday, and by adding a preview week, a second post-performance discussion, and a 'bonus' sixth show featuring the return of Bruce Nelson as Crumpet in The Santaland Diaries. Furthermore, the new season offers audiences three regional premieres of works by award-winning authors.
Rep Stage's mission is to provide a variety of theatre to its diverse audiences, and the 2007-2008 season meets these demands while providing two unique themes for the engaged theatergoer: women and war and their roles in society.
→Mrs. Farnsworth, by A. R. Gurney and directed by Steven Carpenter
Previews August 22-27, runs August 29 – September 23, 2007
The season opens with a DC/Baltimore premiere that examines the power of the individual, specifically a married woman, in our contemporary political landscape from a unique and humorous perspective.
→A Shayna Maidel, by Barbara Lebow, and directed by Peg Denithorne
Previews October 3-7, runs October 10 - November 4, 2007
Staged by New York City director Peg Denithorne, the play follows as a family adjusts, heals and reconnects following the separation, death and unknown aftermath of the Holocaust.
→The Santaland Diaries, by David Sedaris and directed by Joe Brady
Runs December 5-23, 2007
Rep Stage begins a holiday tradition with the play that has become a national 'anti-holiday' cult classic. By popular demand, Bruce Nelson returns to recount the acerbic tale of working as an elf at Macy's during the holiday season. (Pictured, left.)
→Mrs. Warren's Profession, by George Bernard Shaw, and directed by Gus Kaikkonen
Previews January 23-28, runs January 30 - February 24, 2008
In 2008, NYC director Gus Kaikkonen brings to the boards Shaw's classic that explores the conflict between the ideals and economies of womanhood in Victorian times.
→Thom Pain (based on nothing), by Will Eno and directed by Lee Mikeska Gardner
Runs March 26 - April 13, 2008
In another DC/Baltimore premiere, Rep Stage takes a pause from the large ensemble pieces. A finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize, the play is about an ordinary man – just like you but worse – and features Rep Stage Artistic Director Michael Stebbins.
→In the Heart of America, by Naomi Wallace, and directed by Kasi Campbell
Previews May 28 - June 1, runs June 4-29, 2008
The season closes with a third area premiere directed by Rep Stage's award-winning Kasi Campbell. The work is a poetic anti-war love play written in reaction to the Gulf War of 1991 and uniquely pertinent to the current Iraq situation.
