Rainbow Theatre Project to Kick Off 2017-18 Season with BLUE CAMP

Rainbow Theatre Project will begin the 2017-2018 season with Tim Caggiano and Jack Calvin Hanna's Blue Camp, a play that takes audiences inside of the blue barracks on a U.S. Army base.

Blue Camp will be performed on Saturday, September 16 at 3pm and Monday, September 18 at 7:30pm at the District of Columbia Arts Center, where Rainbow Theatre Project will be in residency during the 2017-18 season.

Intensely relevant, Blue Camp, is a drama with humor that depicts what soldiers accused of homosexuality experienced while waiting to be discharged from a Blue Barracks. Along with a glimpse into the lives of the criminal soldiers awaiting discharge in the Green Barracks, this play will give audiences a unique glimpse into an Army base in the days leading up to the Vietnam War.

"This play is dedicated to all the men and women who were kicked out of the armed forces for being gay throughout our history and especially to those who were forced into combat with the service having knowledge of their homosexuality and then kicked out after," shares Hanna. "We also dedicate this work to all trans individuals being discharged."

"There is nothing more powerful than a story about a community of people as when told by members of that community," states Artistic Director H. Lee Gable.

Blue Camp is a drama with humor that takes place on an Army base somewhere in the U.S. in the late summer of 1964, just prior to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Soldiers accused of homosexuality are kept in the Blue Barracks awaiting discharge while criminal soldiers are kept in the Green Barracks. These are the days leading into the Vietnam War.

The performance will be helmed by Christopher Janson and the cast includes Dwayne Allen (Jantzen Hill), Logan Beveridge (Arnold Malloy), Andrew Flurer (Sergeant Swanger), Dan Guy (Theus McCutcheon), Ashley Ivey (Announcer/Narrator), Patrick Joy (Barry Howard), Michael King (Steve Purdee), Torin Lusebrink (Gary Peterson), L.J. Moses (Alvin Bailey), Michael Sainte-Andress (Reverend Goodbray/General), and Topher Williams (Billy Wheeler).

Blue Camp will be performed on Saturday, September 16 at 3:00pm and Monday, September 18 at 7:30pm at the District of Columbia Arts Center.
