Pointless Theatre has announced their first production of the 2014-2015 season, A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular: The Annual North Pole Talent Show. This holiday season, audiences entering the Mead Theatre Lab at Flashpoint (916 G Street NW) will discover a winter wonderland with a distinctly Pointless twist.
Though it draws inspiration from these family-friendly films, A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular, helmed by co-directors Frank Cevarich and Lex Davis, aims to be just as naughty as it is nice. Alongside a trio of talking toys, including a trans-toy and a whiskey-guzzling Jack in the Box, Mrs. Claus plays host to a bawdy and rollicking showcase. The show will also feature original music devised in process with the cast and performed by a live funk band.
"Our goal is to create a non-denominational celebration of the winter season that is sincerely festive and irreverent towards traditional holiday entertainment," says Pointless Co-Artistic Directors Matt Reckeweg and Patti Kalil. This adult-themed production is not recommended for children.
Pointless Theatre is the most recent recipient of the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company, given at the Helen Hayes Awards by theatreWashington.
A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular runs approximately 80 minutes with one intermission. Performances begin December 2, 2014 and run through January 3, 2015, Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm. A preview performance will be held on December 2 and will be Pay What You Can.
General admission is $25 and student/senior tickets are $18. For tickets and for more information, please visit www.pointlesstheatre.com.
