On Saturday night, April 25, 2009, the Kennedy Center was packed and full of anticipation of this new production of Ragtime produced by the Kennedy Center. In attendance were Terrence McNally (book), Stephen Flaherty (composer), and Lynn Ahrens (lyricist).
The original Broadway production opened to critical acclaim in January 1998, ran for 834 performances at the restored Ford Center for the Performing Arts, and received four Tony Awards , including those for Best Original Musical Score, Best Book, and Best Orchestrations.
Following the performance there was a reception and attendees included Congressman Barney Frank from Boston.
