It is important to promote positive images and feelings to children from a young age. In NextStop Theatre Company's production of 'Miss Electricity,' the focus is to break through negative self esteem and give children the tools and power to appreciate who they are and recognize the people who care about them.

'Miss Electricity" is a family-friendly production featuring the story of Violet, a fifth grader determined to show her mother, teachers, classmates and the whole world that she is special. With the help of her best friend and sidekick, Freddy, Violet spends most days trying to break world records. But when she is struck twice by lightning and develops 'superpowers,' she learns quickly that being special can be awfully lonely if you don't appreciate the special people around you.

The production opens Saturday, September 20th for a two week limited engagement at NextStop's Theatre in Herndon, about 5 minutes from Washington's Dulles Airport. After September 28th, the production is taking the fun and valuable lessons found in "Miss Electricity" on tour to nine local schools.

"We've always loved the idea of introducing live theatre to new generations, and being able to bring this production to so many local kids is a really a treat.", said Evan Hoffmann, NextStop's Producing Artistic Director. "In addition, for this production, we're pulling back the curtains so kids can see the lighting and sound technicians at work, bringing the story alive in front of them!"

The cast will be led by Brittany Martz (NextStop: Into the Woods) as Violet. This production will also feature Jen Bevan (DC Region: R+J Star Cross'd Deathmatch) as Mom/Connie/Mrs. Waldo/Athena and Chema Pineda-Fernandez (DC Region: Timumachtikan Nawat/Let's Learn Nawat) as the Narrator/Billy and Joshua Simon (DC Region: Dani Girl) as Freddy/Owl. The creative team behind the production includes Sierra Banack (Properties Designer), Elizabeth Dapo (Puppet Designer), Evan Hoffmann (Director), John Harvey (Technical Director), Kristina Martin (Costume Designer), Laura Moody (Stage Manager), and Nick Upchurch (Sound Designer).
