On Saturday, NextStop Theatre Company, near Reston Town Center, opens a hysterical take on history with the play "45 Plays for 45 Presidents". The play, which is already selling out performances, presents a series of 45 two-minute plays-- one for each American President.
The work is re-written after each election, and NextStop gets to debut the Chicago-born play's 45th addition. In a female-forward twist to the amusing premise, NextStop's production also casts five women as all the presidents. The ensemble includes Caroline Kashner, Brittany Martz, Chloe Mikala, Mary Myers, and Sarah Anne Sillers.
"It's a madcap sprint through American history with lots of laughs and "did you know" moments.", said Director Megan Behm, "But I also think it does a brilliant job of reminding us of hardships we have survived while providing some much-needed levity about American politics."
"45 Plays for 45 Presidents" is the second of a pair of plays about The Presidency in NextStop's 2017/18 season. The darkly sardonic Sondheim musical "Assassins" was performed in the fall. A faith-based pairing with the sensation "Godspell" and the irreverent comedy "Bad Jews" finishes the season in March and May respectively.
In addition to Behm, the production team of "45 Plays" includes Set Designer Daniel Hobbs, Sound Designer Reid May, Lighting/Projections Designer Brian Cox, Costume Designer Alison Samantha Johnson, Stage Manager Eileen Goodrich, Assistant Stage Manager Lynda Bruce, and Master Electrician Jonathan Abolins.
Performances are Thursdays through Sundays from January 11th to February 4th, 2018. General Admission tickets range from $20 to $55. Tickets are available online at www.NextStopTheatre.org or by calling 866-811-4111. All seating is General Admission. Additional fees may apply. Performance popularity determines ticket prices: advance booking is strongly recommended.
