In a creative multimedia adaptation of Sergei Prokofiev's classic orchestral work Peter and the Wolf, the first NSO Family Concert of the 2011-2012 season will fuse film and live music in this reimagined version of the beloved classic. Led by conductor Mark Stephenson, audiences will be introduced to the story's characters and the instruments that portray them while watching Breakthru Films' Oscar®-winning stop-frame animation interpretation of the story.

Attendees can enhance their experience with activities before and after the concert. Experience the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo" at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm before the concerts, a project of the Women's Committee for the NSO. A Kids' Chat after the 3 p.m. concert is a wonderful opportunity for young audience members to ask questions and hear engaging stories in an up-close-and-personal talk with the concert artists.

Conductor Mark Stephenson, who makes his NSO debut in these October performances, conducted the world première live orchestra screening of this animated film at Royal Albert Hall in September 2006. Suzie Templeton is a BAFTA and Oscar®-winning director best known for this Peter and the Wolf adaptation.

Founded by producer Hugh Welchman, BreakThru Films is an award-winning London- and Warsaw-based film Production Company. BreakThru Films established its reputation with its slate of prize-winning shorts which have collected over 20 international awards & nominations including two BAFTA nominations, official selection at Cannes, the Annecy Cristal and Annecy
Audience awards, as well as an Oscar® for Best Animated Short Film for Peter & The Wolf. BreakThru is currently working on a variety of projects, including The Flying Machine, which celebrates the music of Fryderyk Chopin.

David and Alice Rubenstein are the Presenting Underwriters of the NSO. The Macy*s Foundation and Washington Gas are the proud sponsors of the NSO Family Concerts. The NSO Family Concerts are supported through a generous endowment from the Ryna and Melvin Cohen Family Foundation. Performances for Young Audiences is made possible by Bank of America.
