National Theatre Group (NTG) announced today that Angela Rowles will join the company as the theater's new managing director beginning October 31, 2016.
In this position she will spearhead the expansion of programming the building, oversee the management and day-to-day operations of the theater, and work alongside NTG's top brass Steve Traxler, president of JAM Theatricals, who programs the pre-Broadway and touring Broadway attractions.
Rowles brings more than 20 years of live entertainment management experience to this position, the greater part of which has been on the senior management team of NETworks Presentations, a leading producer and manager of touring Broadway productions. Rowles was instrumental in the development of their global expansion initiatives. In addition, she served as executive producer for the highly successful North American tour of Blue Man Group.
"As a longtime resident of the Washington metro area, I have experienced the rapid revitalization of downtown D.C., as well as the new energy the National Theatre has been enjoying with its resurgence of events including concerts, comedy, and a successful Broadway series," shares Rowles. "I look forward to my role in the continued development of a wide variety of programming, bringing an array of contemporary artists to this historic stage."
Traxler adds, "Angela's knowledge of and experience with the live entertainment industry will be invaluable in her role at the National. As we continue to expand our programming and vision for the theater, we are very fortunate to find someone of Angela's caliber to fill this role."
Upcoming engagements at the National Theatre include comedian Bill Burr performing tonight, Love Jones the Musical November 15-20, musician Dave Koz December 3, and country artist Kacey Musgraves December 10. Broadway at the National's 2016-17 season will kick off November 25 and features Tony Award multi-winners Once, Fun Home, and RENT, as well as the Washington premiere of the holiday classic Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. For almost 200 years, the National Theatre has occupied its historic location on Pennsylvania Avenue. The National Theatre opened in 1835 and is one of the oldest continuously operating Broadway theaters in the nation.
