Chesapeake Shakespeare is looking for interested 14-18 year olds (incoming 9th graders all the way through graduating seniors) who would like to be a member of the ChesapeakeShakespeareCorps, CSC's summer high school Acting Company. Last year's High School Acting Company was such a huge success that we've decided to expand from two companies to three this year.

CSCorps members will work with CSC's professional artists and teachers in a combination performance/apprenticeship/training experience. This year the student actors will be performing in one of the following three shows: Macbeth, Twelfth Night, or The Comedy of Errors.

Rehearsals begin June 8, 2013 and occur Saturday and Sunday afternoons (1p - 4p) through July 28 in Ellicott City, MD.

Performances take place July 22, 23, and 29 on our mainstage at the Patapsco Female Institute. Rain date for performances will be July 30.

Members will work in support of CSC's summer productions (Antony and Cleopatra and The Taming of the Shrew) attending at least 8 performances weekends from June 7 through August 4. This gives the CSCorps the unique experience of working directly with our professional cast and crew, learning first hand what it is like to work on a large scale professional outdoor production. In addition, for the first time this year, every member of the CSCorps will have stage time in one of CSC's mainstage shows, The Taming of the Shrew.

Workshops and training sessions are included during the rehearsal period, so there is no need to fear if your student does not have previous acting experience; this program is meant for everybody from the stage veteran to the student who just wants to dip their toes in the water.

THERE IS NO AUDITION FOR THIS PROGRAM. CSC feels strongly that participation in this program should not be based on a 60 second monologue. Toward that end, the first 42 applications received with payment will be accepted. At the first rehearsal casting will take place with company members literally drawing character names from a hat. If these students continue acting into their future they will learn the competitive side of the business soon enough; that is not the point of this program. CSC wants to get kids excited about Shakespeare!

There is a $450 activity fee to cover the cost of three teaching artists, a program manager, and technical requirements. A limited number of need based scholarships (partial or full) are available. Please contact CSC for more information.
