Today, October 28th, the White House will host a discussion on the role of storytelling, cinema, and media in sharing the importance of Science and mathematics.
This panel discussion will feature government representatives with individuals behind the film The Man Who Knew Infinity. Following the panel discussion at 5:30 PM, there will be an optional screening of the film.
The Man Who Knew Infinity is a dramatic film depicting the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan, a prominent mathematician of the early 20 th Century who was born poor in India but who rose to prominence at Cambridge University during WWI with the guidance of his mentor G.H. Hardy, portrayed by Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons. Though he had little formal training, Ramanujan made substantial contributions to the world of mathematics that changed the direction of the discipline during his time and still impact us today. As Ramanujan's mentor, Irons is brilliant and eccentric, imbuing the character with subtle complexities and profound humanity.
