The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts calendar of events for the fall months has just been released. All events are subject to change without notice. Free performances are held each evening at 6 p.m. on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage.

The NSO Principal Pops Conductor and composer of A Chorus Line, Marvin Hamlisch has hundreds of songs to his credit, providing a soundtrack to the lives of many throughout the world. In the process, he has won virtually every major award that exists for the field of composing. Don't miss the newest concert by the Kennedy String Quartet-an interactive program for children that explores the connections between the way we feel and act and the way music is composed and performed. The musicians (Holly Hamilton and Jane Bowyer Stewart, violins; James Deighan, viola; David Teie, cello) lead you through music by Haydn, Bartók, and...you! That's right, the audience helps build (or compose) a piece with the quartet. For age 4 and up. Come early for the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo," a project of the Women's Committee for the NSO.

Twenty-eight-year-old Munich-born violinist Viviane Hagner's recent debuts with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, and others have garnered praise for her highly intelligent musicality and a virtuosity well beyond her years. "Her rich, burnished tone, crystalline articulation and subtle expression grab attention and leave a lasting impression," wrote the Washington Post of her D.C. recital debut. The young Israeli pianist Shai Wosner has collaborated with Pinchas Zukerman, Lynn Harrell, Joseph Kalichstein and Christian Tetzlaff and this season also performs with the Tokyo and Miró String Quartets, among others.
