NFL PLAYERS will kick off Super Bowl Weekend with the first-annual PULSE Awards, a star-studded event to honor excellence on and off the field. Hosted by CBS Sports' The NFL Today anchor James Brown, along with celebrity co-host and CBS' Gary Unmarried star Jay Mohr, the show will take place on Thursday, Feb. 3rd at the Hyatt Regency, Dallas. The 2011 PULSE Awards will recognize the outstanding achievements of current NFL stars and legendary players in three categories: Fan Choice, Union Leadership and the JB Awards for Service to the Community. Among the lineup of guests are Deacon Jones, Roger Craig, Eddie George, Bradie James, Felix Jones and Derrick Brooks, with many more to be announced. All guests subject to change.
NFL fans will decide the winners of three coveted awards: Emerging Player, Comeback Player and Heart of the Game. Fans can vote online at www.pulseawards.com up to five times per day from Monday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Dec. 24, 2010. Registered voters will also be entered to win prizes including a trip to Dallas to attend the PULSE Awards, have the opportunity to participate in the award presentation, as well as backstage access and autographed memorabilia. Pre-show festivities will include a celebrity red carpet and VIP reception, hosted by NFL legend Deion Sanders, with guests including Colt McCoy, Antonio Gates, DeSean Jackson, Eric Dickerson, Jared Allen, Jerome Bettis, Marshall Faulk, Sam Bradford, Warren Moon, and Ray Rice. A three-time Emmy Award winner and host of CBS Sports' "The NFL Today" and Showtime's "Inside the NFL," James Brown was recognized by Sports Illustrated as "Best Studio Host of the Decade." He joined CBS in 1984 and served a decade before moving to "Fox NFL Sunday," where he hosted for 12 years. Brown's charitable efforts have been immeasurable over the years and included hosting the NFL PLAYERS Gala, which featured the JB Awards, honoring players for outstanding community service. The 2010 event raised more than $1 million for Special Olympics, Washington D.C. The multi-talented actor/comedian Jay Mohr is star of the CBS series "Gary Unmarried" and was creator, executive producer and host of "Last Comic Standing." Other credits include his role on the CBS series "Ghost Whisperer." Mohr is best known for his role in the blockbuster hit Jerry Maguire, as well as in films such as Suicide Kings, Ransom, Are We There Yet? and 2010's Hereafter. His sports work includes serving as host of Fox Sports' "NFL This Morning," narrator of the award-winning "Beyond Glory," and host of ESPN's "Mohr Sports." He continues to sell out venues across the country with his stand-up routine.
