Ford's Theatre Society will host its annual gala on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW) followed by a seated dinner at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum (750 Ninth Street NW). The evening includes the presentation of Lincoln Medals to actor James Earl Jones and the U.S. House of Representatives' longest-serving member, The Honorable John D. Dingell, whose extraordinary character, service, accomplishments and work reflect Lincoln's legacy of humanity, wisdom, eloquence and vision.
The evening's events will begin with red carpet arrivals and a special evening performance at Ford's Theatre celebrating the power of the performing arts to inspire and engage. Highlights include appearances by host Scott Bakula, Tony Award winning actress Laura Benanti, operatic soprano Alyson Cambridge, jazz vocalist Rachelle Ferrell, actor Cheyenne Jackson, YouTube darlings and ABC's Nashville actors Lennon and Maisy Stella, dancer Melinda Sullivan and others. Following the performance, invited guests dine at the National Portrait Gallery.
First Lady Michelle Obama serves as the honorary chair of the gala celebration. Honorary co-chairs are Mrs. Landra Reid, The Honorable Elaine L. Chao, Mrs. Cynthia Rogers, Mrs. Deborah I. Dingell, Dr. Sharon Malone, Mrs. Marlene A. Malek, Mrs. Catherine B. Reynolds and Mrs. Doreen M. Spiegel.
The Ford's Theatre Annual Gala benefits the Ford's Theatre Society and its programming, including exhibits at the Center for Education and Leadership (opened February 2012).
