I don't think I've ever seen a week on television that showcases Broadway than I have this week. It began last night when the new SPRING AWAKENING cast was featured on "Late Night With Seth Meyers" on NBC. What a performance they put on. I have heard so much about this cast and they were just stunning.
Get a behind-the scenes look at NBC next live-action musical in the "The Making of of THE WIZ LIVE!" on Wednesday night, Nov. 25 on NBC from 8-9 p.m. The show will air December 3, 2015 and stars Queen Latifah, David Alan Grier, Lizo Aduba, and newcomer Shanice Williams.
Also on Nov. 25, THE LION KING will be a huge part of the CBS show "Code Black" at 10 p.m. When the lead actor of THE LION KING tour arrives at a hospital with a throat infection, a diagnoses may put his career and life in jeopardy. Alton Fitzgerald White, who has played the role of "Mufasa" more than 4,000 times, guest stars. Also, the doctors and THE LION KING cast help a 17-year-old boy deal with a difficult decision of taking his father off life support. Yes, you'll hear some singing from the show.
On Thursday night Nov. 26 the TLC network will broadcast "Broadway at the White House" at 8 p.m. Three students from Dundalk's Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts were among the more than three dozen students from public arts high schools and after-school arts programs who were invited to a daylong symposium on November 23 at the White House dubbed "Broadway at the White House".
Three students, Gino Cardoni, Shalom Omo-Osagie, and Sarah Jones along with their theater teacher, Kelly Carlson, joined such luminaries Andrew Lloyd Webber, Kristin Chenoweth, and Matthew Morrison. First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the event which included master classes in acting, costume design, and other theater-related topics. The students were treated to excerpts from such Broadway shows as FINDING NEVERLAND, FUN HOME, and AMERICAN IN PARIS. This should be quite an evening.
On Baltimore's ABC 2 Friday morning November 27, check out "The View" which will have Gloria and Emilio Estefan and the cast of ON YOUR FEET.
On Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10 p.m. (repeating on December 5, at 6:30 p.m.), WETA26 will present "Josh Groban: Stages". Groban will present a performance based on his new CD "Stages" recorded before a live audience at the Los Angeles Theater. The concert features Broadway songs such as "All I Ask of You" from THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, "Bring Him Home" from LES MISERABLES, "If I Loved You" from CAROUSEL, and "Try to Remember" from THE FANTASTICKS. Kelly Clarkson joins Groban. Baltimore's WMPT has the show on November 28 at 9 p.m.
