Guillotine Theatre and the National Museum of Women in the Arts present Monique LaForce's new play Hootenanny as part of the Women's Voices Theatre Festival.
Hootenanny is set backstage, during a performance of a bluegrass musical version of Macbeth.
Hootenanny will be presented October 2-18 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and at the Crypt in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
"It's a perfect show for Guillotine Theatre, a company devoted to presenting classic plays, and modern plays based on classic literature. It's also a great chance to work with our friends, bluegrass band Dead Men's Hollow," says Artistic Director Catherine Aselford, "and partnering with Dead Men's Hollow gives a literal meaning to the 'Women's Voices' name."
About the Play
Backstage at the new smash hit, Hootenanny - a bluegrass musical version of Macbeth - Samantha and Chip wait for their cues. Bit players who believe they are destined for better things, the greenroom becomes their lair - a place where they wrestle with their desire for each other, refine their career aspirations, and test the limits of their ambition. How far will they go to get what they want?
