Guillotine Theatre today announced production of a new play written by Monique LaForce in conjunction with the 2014 Capital Fringe Festival. Isis and Vesco Investigate the Curious Death of Dr. Freud combines mythology, murder, and psychoanalysis in a witty mash-up of the police procedural, the spy thriller, and iambic pentameter. In the play, the Goddess Isis joins the NYPD seeking to learn how to exact justice for the cruel maiming of her husband, Osiris. Robert Vesco, a charming and shady financier, has cut a deal with the authorities, and has been assigned to consult with Isis. When a mysterious corpse turns up in a sleazy alley, Isis and Vesco are on the case, fighting for the truth, and against a growing attraction for each other.
"This unique play brings together an array of colorful characters from Ancient Egypt, the Wall Street of the 1970s, today's New York City, and a Victorian-era Sigmund Freud," noted producer Catherine Aselford. "Greed, theft, murder and romance drive this creative mash-up, which transcends genres and even centuries."
Isis and Vesco Investigate the Curious Death of Dr. Freud will be presented at the Redrum starting July 12. Tickets can be bought online at www.capitalfringe.org.
Monique LaForce's plays include the critically-acclaimed Kenneth, What Is the Frequency? (co-written with Ian Allen) and The Blizzard Comes (one of the five plays that comprised Guillotine Theatre's 2011 Fringe Festival hit Belle Parricide). Monique is also writing a new work for Guillotine Theatre to produce as part of the upcoming Women's Voices Theatre Festival.
