On Saturday, October 1, 2011, The Georgetown Neighborhood Library is hosting a Banned Book Week Event from 2:00-3:00pm on the Library Terrace, at 3260 R St. N.W. Washington, DC 20007.
Actors from The Georgetown Theatre Company will read from Banned Books, Banned Plays and read Banned Poetry. Selections include works by
Ernest Hemingway,
Aldous Huxley,
Erich Maria Remarque,
Oscar Wilde, Percy Bysshe Shelley,
Walt Whitman and
William Shakespeare.
Light refreshments will be served, and a discussion of why specific books have been banned will be encouraged. This event is FREE and open to the public.
Banned Book Week is September 24 through October 1, 2011. Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.
