Fire House Theatre Project Closes LOVE KILLS, 11/20

The Firehouse Theatre Project proudly announces the second show of its 2010-11 season, Kyle Jarrow's "Love Kills", running Oct. 28 - Nov. 20, 2010. The Firehouse production is directed by Morrie Piersol and stars Emma Orelove, Larry Gard, Kim Clark and Nick Aliff.

With a cast of just four actors, the show takes us back to Nebraska in 1958, as we witness the world closing in on two teenage lovers who are charged with committing 11 murders in the course of a week. Under pressure to confess by dawn, facts blur and loyalties shift, and they have to ask themselves: how far will you go for someone you love?

 Love Kills is based on real life murderers Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate, whose story also has been depicted in Bruce Springsteen's album Nebraska and the films Badlands and Natural Born Killers.  Billed as a "new emo rock musical," Kyle Jarrow's Love Kills premiered to great acclaim in October 2009 at St. Louis' New Line Theatre.  With this true-life inspiration, the playwright explores the dangerous intersection between love and desire. It's young love, with guns.  Wrought with shades of Romeo & Juliet and echoes of the current trend of school violence, Love Kills is a dramatic, cutting-edge new musical that breathes life into a dark subject. Jarrow offers this statement in relation to Love Kills being an "emo" rock musical:
"Emo music and bands like My Chemical Romance, Sunny Day Real Estate or Dashboard Confessional really capture the angst and raw emotionalism of adolescence.  That's why it seemed the perfect choice of musical style to tell this story of young love gone bad."

 Brooklyn-based playwright Kyle Jarrow writes for the stage as well as film and television, and he plays in the bands The Fabulous Entourage and Super Mirage. He won the prestigious OBIE Award at age 24 for his Off-Broadway hit A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant, which has subsequently been produced all over the country, including at the Firehouse in Decemeber 2008. Kyle's play Armless won the Overall Excellence Award at the New York International Fringe Festival, and has been made into a feature film - now an official selection of Sundance Film Festival 2010.  Click here to learn more about playwright Kyle Jarrow.

Mr. Jarrow will be visiting the Firehouse Theatre Project during the run of Love Kills, and also participating in an exclusive talk-back discussion with the audience after a performance.  The date for this event has not yet been announced.
