New this year will be an online auction (http://everymantheatre.cmarket.com) beginning May 15. Proceeds from this event will benefit Everyman Theatre's Educational Outreach Program, which touches the lives of more than 3,000
BaltimoreCity public school students.
Everyman's Educational Outreach program offers high school classes the opportunity to attend four of the season's productions with pre- and post-attendance presentations in the participating schools. In-depth creative workshops in inner city middle schools allow students to work with teachers and theatre artists to develop skills in dramatic arts. More than 16 percent of Everyman's FY06 Operating Budget is committed to the Educational Outreach Program which is provided at no cost to the schools.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, arts education helps to improve student performance and is extremely beneficial for low achievers, not only enhancing academic performance, but also and teaching cooperation and collaboration. Many of the students benefiting from the program would otherwise receive little or no exposure to arts education.
The schools participating in this year's program include Western High School, Northwestern High School, Southwestern High School, Polytechnic High School, City College High School, Cross Country Elementary School, Fallstaff Elementary School, Learning, Inc. and Pimlico Elementary School. Statistics complied by the Baltimore City Data Collaborative show that these schools serve neighborhoods with the highest rankings for juvenile violent arrests, teen birth rates and unemployment.
Attire for the event is Black Tie Optional.
