Dr. Horrible Shuts Down Washington in March, 2011

The Landless Theatre Company presents the Regional Premiere of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog at District of Columbia Arts Center from March 3-27, 2011.

The play is a direct adaptation of the cult internet sensation by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Zack Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen; directed and adapted for the stage by Andrew Lloyd Baughman, Producing Artistic Director of Landless Theatre Company.

"Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" runs March 3- March 27 at DCAC, with performances Thursdays through Sundays at 7:30 PM.

Billy May seem like a nerdy blogger by day... but he moonlights as Dr. Horrible, the aspiring Super-Villain hell bent upon dominating the world and earning his place alongside Bad Horse ("the thoroughbred of Evil") in the Evil League of Evil. Will his maniacal dreams be thwarted by the dashingly cheesy Captain Hammer, or an unexpected romance with that special girl at the Laundromat?Landless' production is one of the first professional stage productions of the much beloved web series from the creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly. Whedon and his collaborators wrote and produced "Dr. Horrible" during the Writer's Guild Strike of 2007-2008, working with friends and family on a shoestring budget.

The original "webisodes" feature iconic performances by Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day.

Landless expects Whedon fans to come out in droves to see the production live on stage, but the company is not afraid of the pressure to live up to fan expectations.
"I am a true Whedonite, as are most of the cast and crew members," explains director Baughman. "You can't really be NPH or Nate Fillion. This is a production for the fans to be a part of something they love, and to introduce newcomers to Dr. Horrible. We set out to capture the independent spirit of the piece: Landless itself is a non-union company founded by a group of artistic family and friends who simply wanted to do good work for an audience. My leads are actors I love to work with and who really embody the characters."

The principal actors include LTC alumni CharLes Johnson (Gutenberg! The Musical!) as Dr. Horrible , Clay Comer (Evil Dead, Tarxxanadu) as Captain Hammer, and Stefanie Garcia (High Fidelity, All That Jaws) as Penny. The production also incorporates cabaret style performances from Dr. Horrible's Commentary The Musical, including tributes to the creators and deleted songs.

"I can't wait to see 'Dr. Horrible' played out with live actors and musicians in front of an audience," adds Baughman. "I hope they show up in costume and sing along!"
'Dr. Horrible' marks the opening of Landless Theatre's 2011 "Season of Horrible Taste," including DC premieres of CHINA: THE WHOLE ENCHILADA (Winner of FringeNYC 2009 Outstanding Musical); THE B TEAM (by Dave Holstein, writer for Showtime's Weeds); ROCK BOTTOM (a new rock musical based on the novel by Michael Shilling); and CAPTAIN FREEDOM - A SUPERHERO'S QUEST FOR TRUTH, LIBERTY AND THE CELEBRITY HE SO RICHLY DESERVES (by award-winning humorist-blogger G. Xavier Robillard, alldaycoffee.net).
