The American Century Theater (TACT) will welcome Helen Hayes Award-winner Brian Childers back to the stage for An Evening with Danny Kaye. This production, to be performed as part of the Robert M. McElwaine Reflections series, pays tribute to one of Broadway and Hollywood's greatest showmen - Danny Kaye. Stephen Nachamie directs and Jeff Biering is the Musical Director.
Childers performed in numerous incarnations of the story of
Danny Kaye in Danny and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story, which was first performed at TACT and garnered him the
Helen Hayes Award for Best Actor in a Musical and the Mary Goldwater Award. An Evening with
Danny Kaye is now a touring production and has appeared throughout the U.S.
Brian has captured hearts across the nation with his critically acclaimed portrayal of
Danny Kaye. Childers becomes Kaye in a way that lets a new generation discover - and an older generation re-visit - a unique performer. The Associated Press wrote: "Childers has a marvelous voice...proves himself to be a continuing major talent" and The Washington Post wrote, "Childers is nothing short of amazing in the role."
The show is a romp through the life of Danny Kaye, as Childers leads the audience in singing Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher, prances through Fine's still - fine Anatole of Paris, and drills through Tchaikovsky.
Childers has performed in many Off-Broadway and regional theatre productions. For TACT, he appeared in Detective Story, The Boys in the Band, Hollywood Pinafore, The Second Man and in The Robber Bridegroom. He played the role of
Robert F. Kennedy in The Titans and performed in the new musical 90 North, both at the Kennedy Center.
