"Thank God You Survived!" "How bad is it out there?"
From the moment you walk in the door at Capital Fringe's Fort Fringe in downtown Washington D.C., you become a "survivor." From that moment on, you're in a battle for your life.
While I've not had the opportunity to review a haunted house or any other Halloween live action experiences, I'm no stranger to taking part. With the seemingly recent influx of such experiences in the mid-atlantic area, I was excited to see what would happen when you threw professional actors and theatre people into the mix.
While I can't divulge many of the details so as not to ruin the experience, I'll walk you through what I can. Our guide for the evening was NoMa, played by Philip Reid - in a situation where I'm sure it's fairly easy to fall in and out of character, but not our NoMa. As we wandered through the theatre complex, collecting supplies and clues to the zombie infection, we were ambushed by zombies. Throughout the adventure, you're armed with "neurotoxin darts" (which look and feel strangely like a Nerf gun). You've got some tough choices to make as you wander through - and I hope you make the right ones!
The gamification of this particular event was the perfect addition for our small group of friends who happen to be quite competitive. Trying to survive, follow the story line, all the while racking up points made for a terrifying and thrilling evening.
While navigating the many options you have this scary season, for thrills and screams - make sure DC Dead moves to the top of your list. I hope you survive!
DC Dead is running at Capital Fringe's Fort Fringe Thursdays through Sundays until November 1st. Visit DC-Dead.com for tickets.
