Just outside the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC, high quality professional nonprofit theater is found at the NextStop Theatre Company in Herndon. BOEING BOEING, a delightful comedy, runs in the 114 seat theater through April 30.
BOEING BOING, which enjoyed a Tony Award-winning revival in 2008, takes place in the 1960's and features the story of Bernard, an American bachelor living in Paris, the three "air hostesses" engaged to him and the chaotic day when the release of a faster Boeing jet brings all three fiancees into town at the same time.
NextStop Producing Artistic Director, Evan Hoffmann, whose most recent directorial work in Catch Me If You Can is up for four Helen Hayes Awards, directs the show. "There are so many serious and intense things going on in the world right now, but for this moment in time, I thought it might help us all to take a moment to laugh. BOEING BOEING is great for that!" he said.I can't help but agree. For two and a half hours, I enjoyed pure escapism with plenty of laughs thanks to the incredibly talented cast of six, a mix of returning NextStop veterans like Matthew Baughman and Emily Levey, as well as some spectacular new faces: Alan Naylor (a Helen Hayes Award winner), Jenny Girardi, Suzy Alden and Karen Novack.
Naylor in particular stood out in his role as Robert, Bernard's friend. His high energy never wavered as he spent perhaps more time onstage than any of the actors, rarely still as he performed one physical comedy stunt after another in between lines.
The production welcomes the return of Elizabeth Jenkins McFadden as Scenic Designer, and a production team including Sarah Tundermann (Lighting Designer), Kristina Martin (Costume Designer), Reid May (Sound Designer), Jack Golden (Technical Director), Jessica Dubish (Assistant Director), Britney Mongold (Scenic Charge Artist), and Laura Moody (Stage Manager).
All seating is General Admission and tickets range from $35 to $100. For tickets and information, visit www.NextStopTheatre.org or call 866-811-4111.
