It's no secret that I think the Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts offers the best educational theater experience in our area. Their offerings this summer, as part of the Summer Musical Institute for teens, is no exception - and it's a big one. They're presenting the DC premiere of the Alan Menken/Stephen Schwartz musical adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The company only has three and a half weeks before it's four performance run beginning on July 19th.
What you will find below is the first of a four-part Vblog series that takes you Theatre Lab's process of putting up this mammoth musical. In this installment, you see Theatre Lab's co-founders (and co-directors for this show) Deb Gottesman and Buzz Mauro address the cast and guide them through their first week of rehearsal. You will also briefly meet a few of the principal performers.
Join us for the next few weeks as these very talented young artists enter the "Topsy Turvy" world of putting a show together into a piece of art. Deb Gottesman and Buzz Mauro always push the envelope with their show choices and this one is no exception.
It's now time to meet the cast and see how the first week of rehearsal went. Enjoy!!
