BE CAREFUL! THE SHARKS WILL EAT YOU!, a solo show based on Jay Alvarez's life as a Cuban-American that interweaves family stories with Cuban history, is currently playing ArtWorks Theatre in Hollywood, CA through February 11th.

The show has announced that it seeks to move to Broadway, though no specific plans have been announced. It will return to Stage Left Studio after its ArtWorks run, where it will play through March 18th before opening at MetroStage in Washington DC on April 4.

Paquito D'Rivera, it was also announced today, is set to compose a full-length score for SHARKS. Paquito D'Rivera's first recognition as a solo artist by The Recording Academy came in 1996 with the highly acclaimed recording Portraits of Cuba. Since then, D’Rivera has received many recognitions as an artist and composer, including two nominations for his most recent release, Jazz-ClaZZ (featuring Sabine Meyer and Trio Clarone).

D’Rivera is a recipient of the National Medal for the Arts, presented at the White House by President George W. Bush in 2005, and was named one of the 2005 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters. In both 2004 and 2006, the Jazz Journalists Association honored Mr. D'Rivera as the Clarinetist of the Year, and in March 2007 he was honored with the Living Jazz Legend Award in a ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
