Arena Stage Holds Open Audtions for 'CROWNS' Role 1/3

Arena Stage will allow an audience to watch the first round of auditions to fill a role in the spring revival of 'Crowns'. The show will run March 27-April 26 at the Lincoln Theater.

Arena is searching for an African American woman between the ages of 16-24 who can act, sing, and dance. No previous professional experience is required.

The winner of the audition will play the role of Yolanda, a teen from Brooklyn who gets sent to her grandmother's house in South Carolina. While there Yolanda learns about African American history, the civil rights struggle, and traditions of faith, and music.

The auditions will take place on January 3 at the Lincoln Theater, located at 1215 U St. NW. 

Finding Yolanda Audition Timeline, January 3, 2009:
All events take place in the Lincoln Theatre
8-9 A.M.
Sign up for a time slot.
9 A.M.
First audition begins.
You will have 90 seconds total for your audition. Please have 16 bars of a song, preferably gospel, and a short monologue prepared if there's time.
4:00 P.M.
Callbacks begin.
The auditioners will tell you in your audition if you are invited to the callback. Please come prepared with sheet music for your song; there will be an accompanist. Also have your dance clothes and a monologue.

Arena plans to announce the winning Yolanda the following week.

Judges panel for the tryouts will consist of cast member Marva Hicks and director-choreographer Kenneth Lee Roberson.

Crowns is adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry and will run March 27 through April 26, 2009 at the Lincoln Theatre
