Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, in partnership with Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen and At-Large Councilmember Elissa Silverman, opens its doors for the ninth D.C. Career Fair Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Mead Center (1101 Sixth St., SW).

Throughout the past four years, Arena Stage has partnered with nearly 100 participating organizations and served a combined total of more than 7,400 community members by hosting regular career fairs.

More than 25 hiring organizations, in areas of employment including construction, retail, hospitality and leisure, law, transportation and facilities services, are confirmed to participate in this free event. Numerous community-based training and services providers have worked with job seekers in their individual pipelines to provide focused and personalized job training and professional development skills to create job-ready candidates. Applicants are being matched with specific employment requirements to accelerate the possibilities for onsite interviews and actual job offers. This event is only open to those referred applicants who may pre-register for the event.

The 4/5 event will commence with remarks by Dobie, Allen and Silverman at 9:00 a.m. For complete details for the D.C. Career Fair visit arenastage.org/jobfair.

"What we are most proud of is that this little idea, originally connected to the topic of the play Good People, has not only endured but grown in such a beautiful way," says Arena Stage Executive Director Edgar Dobie. "From the first job fair with a line that stretched around the block to a now more comprehensive career fair that provides professional advice as well as interviews (and more experience with line management), the event is fulfilling a need within our community in a big way. Rather than being passive in supporting our community members out there looking for meaningful work, we are proud to provide a space to introduce employers and prospective employees. It's another way that Arena Stage strives to be a leader in our community."

"I'm proud to support the D.C. Career Fair once again. Connecting employers with ready-to-work applicants and seeing people leave with a job offer in hand is what this is all about," says Councilmember Allen. "We help D.C. businesses and nonprofits and qualified job applicants find each other. To hold this fair in Ward 6's beautiful Arena Stage is the icing on the cake. My office is committed to doing all we can to help get Ward 6 residents back to work and giving Ward 6 businesses a great pool of applicants to choose from."

"As the new chair of the Council's Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, I am focused on how we build a strong jobs pipeline that serves our residents and businesses alike, matching companies, non-profits and government agencies with D.C. residents in living wage careers," says Councilmember Silverman. "I'm thrilled to partner again with Arena Stage and my friend and colleague, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, to host this event and connect our great employers with great D.C. residents."
