The 2008 Arena Stage Student Playwrights Project invites all students between 5th and 12th grades in the District of Columbia and its neighboring counties to enter into competition an original ten-minute play. Entries must be postmarked or delivered to Arena Stage by Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
The winning ten students will receive playwriting master classes and participate in further script development with professional playwrights, directors and dramaturgs. The winning entries will then be performed by professional actors. All winning playwrights receive $500.
Playwrights must be students in 5th through 12th grades. Students must attend school in the District of Columbia, the City of Alexandria, or one of the following counties: Loudoun, Prince George's, Prince William, Montgomery, Fairfax or Arlington. Home-school students must be residents of one of the aforementioned cities and counties.
Entries must be postmarked or received at Arena Stage by Wednesday, March 12, 2008, to be eligible for competition. Entries not meeting these requirements of delivery will not be accepted.
Submitted plays must be the original, unpublished work of one playwright. Pieces written by more than one student will not be accepted. Submitted scripts will not be returned. Entries must be typed; suggested length is 6-12 pages. Please list on entry: full name, date of birth, grade, school, home address, home phone, e-mail, school address, school phone, teacher's name, principal's name, and play title.
