1st Stage, Tysons Corner's award-winning professional theatre, announces the extension of their critically-acclaimed production of A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration until December 30.
The story takes place in 1864 as Washington, D.C. is settling down to the coldest Christmas Eve in years. Stories of many intertwining lives- spanning from the battlegrounds of Northern Virginia to the halls of the White House- demonstrate that the gladness of one's heart is the best gift of all. A Civil War Christmas, a pageant of carols by Paula Vogel, the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer of Indecent, is "a triumphant production with enormous artistic and historical depth" (The Connection). This "rich and moving play with music" (Variety) is a treat the whole family will enjoy.
The 1st Stage production of A Civil War Christmas by Paula Vogel with music by Daryl Waters features Suzy Alden, Rebecca Ballinger, Demitrus Carter, Tiziano D'Affuso, Wyn Delano, Ayanna Hardy, Billie Krishawn, V. Savoy McIlwain, Gary L. Perkins III, Karma Price, Russell Rinker, Sophie Schulman, and Joshua Simon. 1st Stage Artistic Associate, Deidra LaWan Starnes returns, following her Helen Hayes Award nominated production of Ma Rainey' Black Bottom, to direct the production.
The design team includes: music direction by Markus Williams, Walter "Bobby" McCoy, and Leigh Delano, scenic design by Jessica Cancino, costume design by Danielle Preston, lighting design by John D. Alexander, sound design by David Lamont Wilson, dialect coaching by Jane Margulies Kalbfeld, and properties design by Cindy Landrum Jacobs.
