Caroline, or Change to Head to London in October

According to The Evening Standard, the musical will be seen at The National Theatre's Lyttelton space in mid-October. With lyrics and a book by Kushner (Angels in America) and music by Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie), the show concerns its title character, Caroline Thibodeaux, a black maid in '60s New Orleans. While working unhappily in the household of an affectionate Jewish family (who allow her to keep the change found in the pants of son Noah while doing the laundry), Caroline feels the winds of social change blowing around herself and her daughter Emmie.
George C. Wolfe, who directed the show on Broadway, will also direct the London production, for which casting has not yet been announced. Caroline, or Change premiered at The Public Theater before transferring to Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theater, where it opened on May 2nd, 2004 and ran for 136 performances. The ambitious musical, which features a jaggedly poetic, nearly sung-through score, netted a Tony Award for Anika Noni Rose, and also picked up five other nominations--including one for Best Musical.
