Confirming Internet buzz from last week, Variety is now reporting that Hugh Jackman will host the 2005 Tony Awards, marking his 3rd stint as the show's host. The paper also reports that Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainmen will return as producer and producer/director of the '05 awards.

Hugh Jackman has been the host for the past two years, and took home the 2004 Tony Award for his leading role in The Boy From Oz, his Broadway debut. No stranger to the theater scene, Jackman has appeared in his native country of Australia in Beauty and the Beast and Sunset Boulevard, among others.

He also has extensive film credits having appeared in both the X-Men movies, Swordfish, Someone Like You, Kate & Leopold, Van Helsing. Having just completed filming for The Fountain, Jackman is already lined up to reprise his role as Wolverine in X-Men 3.

Recent reports stated that the star will kick off a worldwide concert tour in April with an appearance at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas. The resort is set to open in late-April, and early reports indicate that Jackman's show might indeed kick off the hotel's opening weekend. Hosting the Tony Awards would naturally be great promo for such a tour. The show is said to feature a troupe of dancers, plus direction by George C. Wolfe, and choreography by Kathleen Marshall. That award-winning team will put together the tour which will make its debut at the new 1,200 seat located in the hotel.

You can catch The 59th Annual Tony Awards on CBS (check your local listings) on June 5th from 8-11pm.
