The story is a simple one of four young men struggling to make it as a swing & standards close harmony group in those pre-Beatles, pre-grassy knoll days of our Perry Como innocence. So what s the problem? They re dead! Wiped out by a bus full of Catholic schoolgirls while the lads were driving in their now iconic cherry red 54 Mercury convertible to their first real gig (at the Fusel-Lounge in a local Pennsylvania airport). The schoolgirls, by the by, were okay. But a second opportunity is now heaven sent to The Plaids. They ve returned to Earth nearly 50 years later to put on the show they never performed in life. There are problems of course, not least of which is that they are dead. And there are the more prosaic challenges, such as remembering lyrics and moves that they haven t sung or danced in over 40 years.

Review: FOREVER PLAID at 42nd Street Moon
by Steve Murray - April 26, 2024

Stuart Ross’ 1989 jukebox homage to boy bands of the 1950’s is a pleasant whiff of nostalgia sure to remove you from the stress of today’s less naïve and chaotic present. Forever Plaid follows The Plaids, a youthful quartet with stardom in their eyes killed in a car accident in 1964. Like the baseball players in Field of Dreams, they return to perform one final concert and we’re here to bear witness.

Review: FOREVER PLAID at Little Theatre Of Mechanicsburg
by Andrea Stephenson - April 21, 2024

The actors have wonderful interactions with one another and with the audience, and their comedy chops are highlighted well. The actors have good voices and there are moments of nice harmonies and solo work. Unfortunately, the show is disappointing due to some major pitch problems that even impacted the melody line at times.

Review: FOREVER PLAID at Castle Craig Players
by Sean Fallon - March 03, 2024

On Saturday, March 2nd, I had the pleasure of seeing another phenomenal performance put on by the Castle Craig Players at the Almira F. Stephan Memorial Playhouse in Meriden, CT, FOREVER PLAID, a comedic jukebox musical written by Stuart Ross. Director Melanie Del Sole, with help from musical director Nick Ciasullo and choreographer Stephen Koehler bring out the best in this amazing cast featuring Henry Tobelman, Stephen Koehler, Jeffrey Rizzo and Brandon Gregoire, accompanied by David Marottolo on piano. The show reflects the music of the male 1950s harmony groups, placing it into a highly entertaining storyline! The actors have incredible stage chemistry with each other, and amazing vocal harmony. Their dance maneuvers are performed with sharp synchronicity. Most importantly, it is clear that they are having an excellent time performing their roles, radiating positive energy throughout the audience.

Review: FOREVER PLAID is Simply Fun
by Vicki Trask - July 10, 2022

The joys of watching live theatre include seeing the sweat pouring down performer’s faces, from an acceptably social distance, and knowing that it’s a combination of the powerful stage lights and the inexplicable desire to include live flames in a show about four boys who died in a car crash... Before I knew it, our time with The Plaids was over.
