This season we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the VSO Chorus and Robert De Cormier’s tenure as director. It seems fitting to reprise a piece that was programmed on the Chorus’s inaugural concert: Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, about which the composer rhymed: “These psalms are a simple and modest affair/Tonal and tuneful and somewhat square.” The Bernstein is paired with the Brahms Requiem, a transcendent work which the orchestra looks forward to revisiting. Join us as we honor our venerable and venerated choral director--and the outstanding chorus that is his legacy to the VSO--in a program that’s sure to be the emotional high point of the season.
