The Monument Arts & Cultural Center presents the Tony Award winning family favorite, Fiddler on the Roof with Metropolitan Opera star, Oren Gradus.
The brainchild of Broadway legends, Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince, songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, with book by Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof became an instant classic when it debuted in 1964 winning nine Tony Awards. Since then, it has solidified its place as a staple of the American musical theatre repertoire.
Set against the backdrop of Tsarist Russia, the story centers on Tevye, a humble milkman navigating the challenges of religious and cultural traditions in a rapidly evolving world, and growing antisemitism. With its unforgettable score, including cherished songs like “Tradition,” “Matchmaker Matchmaker” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” the MACCenter’s production promises to captivate audiences of all ages with its warmth, humor, and traditions.
This production marks something of a “Gradus” family affair. Famed Israeli artist Ari Gradus (listed in American Art’s Who’s Who since 1995), will not only be directing his son in this production, but he brings his artistic talents to design a vibrant and magical set, transporting theatregoers to a surreal world in his creation of the little town of Anatevka. Kristine Lewis is at the helm as Producer and choreographer with Richard Cherry as Musical Director.
In addition to Oren Gradus as Tevye, the production includes Jared Micah Svoboda (Motel), Aidan Levinson (Perchik), Brian Thomas Steinberg (Fyedka), and a large cast of local performers: Ingrid Madelayne (Golda), Hope Jasper (Yente), Pella Marta Voigt (Tzeitel), Bennington’s Got Talent 2024 winner, Trinity Madison (Hodel), Abigail Weedon (Chava), Jeannine Trimboli (Fruma-Sarah), Delores O’Connell (Shprintze), Ava Raposo (Bielke), David Sutton (Lazar Wolf), Ted DeBonis (Mordcha), Chuck Suss (Rabbi), Dan Silver (Avram), Susan Haner (Grandma Tzeitel), Danny Townsend (Constable),Jessica O’Connell (Shaindel), Sonya Bassalo (Fiddler), and Charlamayne Cruickshank, Jonathan Slyker, Zach Cruickshank, Ambrose O’Connell, Donna Maria De Creeft Perkin, Amy Morneault-Mentz, Maureen Cossey, Cristina Muia and Lillian Snide as Villagers.
