ENTERTAINMENT is the theme of the MACCenter’s first annual gala celebration– and topping off performances in every art gallery: Broadway’s Andrea McArdle on the main stage. Fresh from wowing New York City audiences with her one-woman show, “Confessions of a Broadway Baby” Andrea now brings this biographical cabaret– where she weaves song with amusing show biz anecdotes– to Bennington.
Andrea first captured the hearts of theatergoers everywhere in 1977 when she originated the title role in the mega-musical ANNIE, based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie”. As “Annie”, Andrea became the youngest performer ever to be nominated for a Tony Award as Best Lead Actress in a Musical.
Since then, Ms. McArdle has been entertaining audiences nationally and around the world. On Broadway, she has starred in many shows including LES MISERABLE, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and JERRY’S GIRLS, alongside Carol Channing, to name just a few. Among her film and tv credits: RAINBOW, where she starred as Judy Garland and the PBS special LEADING LADIES OF BROADWAY. She has worked with some of the great legends of the entertainment industry including Ethel Merman, Liza Minnelli, Julie Andrews, Bob Hope, Liberace, Frank Sinatra, Steve Martin and Martin Short.
The Gala festivities begin at 4:00 when locals, Stephanie Phelan, Ric DiDonato, David Sutton and comedy juggler entertainer, Groovy Guy (Guy Collins) showcase their talents. You’ll also have an opportunity to see fine artist Barbara Sarvis create a work before your eyes. The gala includes a SILENT AUCTION with paintings from renowned artists, Jim Coe, Tony Allain and others, Broadway tickets with an overnight at the Times Square Marriott, numerous restaurant packages at your favorite spots and much more. Additionally, a winner will be drawn for those who purchased raffle tickets to win the hand constructed Adirondack canoe, built by the Algonquin/Ojibwa Native Americans of Trois-Rivers Quebec (three Rivers). Enjoy all of this entertainment with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres by the South Shire Inn.
