It's the one night of the year when our best music students get to strut their stuff.
Hand-picked by area music teachers, more than two dozen accomplished young performers will sing and play a variety of instruments with a level of professionalism that comes from years of practice.
"These kids have been practicing for years, but they don't always get a chance to show the world what they can do," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "This show gives them a chance to be in a proper recital, in a proper theater, in front of a large audience. It's an invaluable experience for a young performer."
The showcase features students in high school and younger. This year's show will feature Sierra March, Ben Dickerson, Sofia Botti, Baily Ryan, Alyzza Idell, Emily Byers, Jakub Kraus, Carlie Wright. Brady Winslow, Ethan Roy, the One-Eyed Jacks, Orland Whitcomb-Worden, Lauren Turner, and many other performers. They will perform classical music, show tunes, jazz, rock, and more.
"This is one of my favorite events of the year," says Anderson. "The kids are outstanding, and I think it's really motivational for younger children who are just beginning to study music."
The Young Artists Showcase will be presented at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Saturday, April 2, at 8 pm. Tickets are $10 general, and $5 for students. They may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, noon-5 pm) and at the door, if available.
