Described as playing music that "appeals not only to jazz and blues lovers but also to folks that are naturally drawn to music with a great groove," the Weston Bessette Quartet will perform in the intimate Town Hall Theater Cabaret on March 2.
The group incorporates instrumental jazz and blues styles of the mid-20th century, including original music and covers written in the styles of artists such as John Coltrane, MiLes Davis, Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, as well as choice selections from the Great American Songbook.
Singer and pianist Helen Weston fronts the group. The Bristol native has performed and directed many theatrical productions, and has been teaching music for over 20 years. She’s joined by Eric Bessette, tenor sax and backup vocals, Andrew B. Smith on bass, and Matt Davis on drums.
“Helen is one of the most talented people I’ve ever known,” says THT artistic director Douglas Anderson. “She’s been performing in the area her entire life, in various bands and in all kinds of musical productions, and it’s great to see her branch out in this new direction.”
The Weston Bessette Quartet will perform on Friday, March 2, at 7:00 pm in the Byers Studio on THT’s lower level. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased at 382-9222, www.townhalltheater.org, at the THT Box office, or at the door, if available.
