Warren Miller has created 64 films, action-packed journeys that follow skiers and snowboarders to some of the most exotic places in the world. The series has an enormous international following, and will make its Middlebury debut with a screening of the latest film, Ticket to Ride, at Town Hall Theater on Thursday, December 5.
The newest installment is an excursion to Kazakhstan, Greenland, Iceland's Troll Peninsula, the Alaskan Tordrillos and Montana's Big Sky country. World-class athletes tackle the diverse terrain, including World Cup champions and Olympians, Seth Westcott, Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso, plus legendary ski mountaineers like Chris Davenport and freeskiers Colby West and Sean Pettit.
Everyone attending the event at Town Hall Theater will receive a voucher for a free day of skiing at both Sugarbush Resorts and Smugglers Notch. (For details go to www.townhalltheater.org.) A cash bar will be open throughout the two-reel film, vendors will display the latest skiing technology, and prizes will be awarded during intermission.
For many skiers, the season officially begins with Warren Miller.
