Vermont Stage Company, Burlington's year-round professional theatre company, has announced events for their upcoming season, featuring The Glass Menagerie, Oliver Twist and Underneath the Lintel.
The Glass Menagerie
October 6 - 24, 2010
This semi-autobiographical account of Tennessee Williams' early days in 1930's St. Louis is a "memory play" told from the perspective of an aspiring young writer. The Glass Menagerie is a delicate and haunting portrait of an artist's path to independence and personal insight. The Glass Menagerie will be directed by Mark Nash.
Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist
January 26 - February 13, 2011
Using Charles Dickens' original words, a handful of tunes stolen from the vivid world of Victorian music-hall, and a chameleon ensemble of actors, Neil Bartlett's revised version of Oliver Twist brings the dark underbelly of nineteenth-century London back to bold theatrical life. The unforgettable characters - Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sikes, and the Artful Dodger - inhabit a world filled with images of danger and fear, innocence and hope; a world seen through the eyes of an astonished child. Oliver Twist will be directed by Jason Jacobs.
Underneath the Lintel
March 9 - 20, 2011
Written by Glen Berger, Underneath the Lintel tells the story of a Dutch librarian who, after finding a book returned 123 years overdue, is transformed from a mild-mannered civil servant into a globe-trotting detective. As his search leads him around the world and into surprising revelations of a long-forgotten past, he ultimately discovers what can only be described as a miracle. VSC Artistic Director Mark Nash returns to the stage in this quirky and charming "twisty mystery of a tale." Underneath the Lintel will be directed by Jim Gaylord.
Sylvia
April 20 - May 8, 2011
Sylvia, written by A.R. Gurney, tells the story of Greg, a married man in the throes of a mid-life crisis, whose life is turned upside down after he brings home a stray dog he finds in the park. Kathryn Blume reprises her role as Sylvia, the chaos-creating canine who steals Greg's heart and teaches him a few things about living life to the fullest. Sylvia will be directed by Mark Nash.
Winter Tales
December 8 - 12, 2011
Celebrated local folk singers Patti Casey and Pete Sutherland join Vermont Stage actors to share a delightful blend of new tunes and tales full of joy, humor, and warmth--just the right recipe to put audiences in the holiday spirit. Winter Tales will be written and directed by Mark Nash, and will feature a Winter Tales Gala Benefit on December 12 at 6pm.
